How we got your details

CostQuote is a trading name of Go Convert Solutions Limited, registered in England and Wales, company number 12737198. Registered office: Lister House, Lister Hill, Horsforth, LS18 5AZ. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office under number ZA774715.

We are the data controller for the marketing described on this page. There is no third party between us and you: we hold the list ourselves, we built it ourselves, and we are the ones answerable for it.

Two public sources, and nothing else.

• The Companies House register. Your company name, registration number, incorporation date, registered office and SIC industry codes are published there as free company information under the Companies Act 2006.
• Your company’s own website. The email address we wrote to is one your business publishes for people to contact it.

We did not buy, rent or licence your details from a data broker, and no one supplied them to us.

Marketing email is governed by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, usually called PECR. Regulation 22 requires consent before sending marketing email to an individual subscriber. It does not apply to a corporate subscriber, which broadly means an incorporated body. The Information Commissioner’s Office has published guidance confirming that consent is not needed to email a business address of that kind.

We only contact companies that are limited companies, PLCs or LLPs, at addresses on their own business domains. We do not email sole traders or ordinary partnerships, and we do not email personal addresses at Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo or the like. If you have received this at an address that is genuinely personal rather than your company’s, that is a mistake on our part and we would like to know, so tell us and we will remove it.

Consent aside, data protection law still applies to any personal information attached to a business address, for instance where the address contains someone’s name. We process that under Article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR, legitimate interests, which is explained below.

Where a business address identifies a person, the categories are:

• the email address, and any name contained in it
• your company’s name, registration number, registered office, industry classification and incorporation date
• a sentence we generate about your sector, used to make the email relevant rather than generic
• whether an email was delivered, opened or clicked, and any reply you send us

We do not hold financial information about your company, and we do not build a profile of you as an individual.

Our interest is commercial. We introduce businesses that are looking for finance to the lenders and brokers who provide it, and we are paid for those introductions. Reaching businesses that may want finance is how that works.

We weighed that against your rights by keeping to published business contact details, keeping the message relevant to your sector, saying plainly in the email who we are and that we are a comparison service rather than a lender, putting an unsubscribe link in every email, publishing this page, and acting on objections when we get them. We do not contact anyone who has told us to stop.

Twelve months from the last time you engaged with us, or from the last email we sent you, whichever is later. After that it is deleted.

If you unsubscribe or object, we keep one thing indefinitely: your email address on a suppression list. That is what stops us contacting you again by mistake, and keeping it is the only way to honour the request.

You can also ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict how we use it, or ask for it in a portable form. Write to privacy@costquote.co.uk and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we handle any of this, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. You are entitled to go to them directly and you do not have to come to us first.
